PII Pipeline Solutions Opens New Pipeline Inspection Facility in Calgary

PII Pipeline Solutions, a GE Oil & Gas and Al Shaheen joint venture, marked the official opening of a new state-of-the-art services facility in Calgary on May 20. The facility is aimed to support North America’s oil and gas infrastructure with advanced pipeline inspection technology and services, and will specialize in pipeline crack analysis, serving Canadian, U.S. and European pipeline operators.

Welcoming customers and VIPs from across Canada to the opening event, Michael Bellamy, general manager of PII Pipeline Solutions, said, “The Canadian pipeline industry is critical to the reliable supply of oil and gas to all of North America. Our investment in a state-of-the-art services facility will help our expanding Canadian customer base enhance the safety and security of their pipeline infrastructure systems. This new facility will become our global center for pipeline crack analysis, serving not only our Canadian clients, but also U.S. and European pipeline operators.’’

The new facility consolidates several existing PII Pipeline Solutions operations in Calgary into one center and will host part of GE’s fleet of advanced magnetic, geometry and ultrasonic pipeline inspection tools for deployment throughout Canada to help operators monitor the condition of their oil and gas gathering and transmission systems.

The 50,000-square-foot services facility will house 100 employees and is certified to ISO9001: 2008 and EN13908 (ATEX) requirements.

Recent PII Pipeline Solutions projects in Canada include inspecting a key segment of TransCanada’s planned Keystone pipeline project. Illustrating the Canadian industry’s strong support for advanced inspection technology, on the Keystone inspection job GE deployed its UltraScan Duo ‘phased array’ inspection tool.
