USDG/Gibson Energy To Expand Alberta Crude-By-Rail Terminal
Gibson Energy announced plans for a crude rail terminal near Hardisty, Alberta, to handle increasing Canadian production. The terminal will be developed in partnership with rail logistics company U.S. Development Group LLC and served by Canadian Pacific Railway’s North Main Line.
The Hardisty terminal will handle various grades of crude with an initial capacity of 140,000 bpd. All crude handled at the terminal will be transferred by pipeline from Gibson’s Hardisty Terminal, located about five kilometers away.
As part of the project, Gibson will install required pumping equipment and construct a pipeline for the transfer of crude from its terminal to the USDG crude-by-rail facility. The terminal will be able to handle two unit trains of up to 120 railcars a day and is expected to come online in the first quarter of 2014.
