2 Workers Killed, 1 Hurt in Texas Gas Pipeline Accident

WOODSBORO, Texas (AP) — Two workers have been killed and another was hurt during a high-pressure release as the men repaired a South Texas gas pipeline.

Refugio County authorities say the accident happened Tuesday at a Southcross Energy Partners plant near Woodsboro.

Justice of the Peace Lorraine Lopez says two men were in a hole repairing a pipeline when a piece of the line came loose, releasing about 800 pounds of pressure.

One worker died at the scene. Another died at a hospital. A third man was treated at a hospital.

A statement Wednesday from Dallas-based Southcross says a company employee and a contract worker were killed. Southcross says a piece of equipment used by the contract workers, including the man who was injured, apparently failed.

Names of the victims weren’t immediately released.
