IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for advancing environmental and social performance, has appointed Equinor’s Morten Mikkelsen as its new chair, succeeding Rupert Thomas of Shell.

During his 13 years to date at Equinor, Morten has been in vice president roles for major field development projects, field operations and with Corporate Sustainability in which he was part of the leadership team that built up a new corporate function for sustainability.

IPIECA was founded in 1974 as the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association at the request of the United Nations Environment Programme. It remains the sector’s principal channel of communication with the UN.
