Editor's Notebook
It has been more than two years since the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines and still nobody knows for sure who were the perpetrators – or if they do, they are not saying so publicly.
Features
In the weeks ending the year 2023 and those starting the one, a stealth part of the Biden administration’s green agenda with ramifications for the oil patch was sliding under the radar of most major fossil fuel organizations.
With safety being at the forefront of all things concerning pipeline projects, new INGAA Chair Sean Nicholson certainly comes well-equipped for his new role. In this exclusive interview with Pipeline & Gas Journal, Nicholson discusses his plans and priorities as the new chair of INGAA.
Morocco has re-affirmed its commitment to the construction of a new gas pipeline network along the West Africa coastline to promote intra-Africa natural gas trade, as well as to guarantee energy supplies to Europe.
Coatings are an incredibly important part of maintaining safe pipeline operations and asset integrity, including being a first line of defense against corrosion and corrosion-induced failures.
Leaders within the coatings industry have indicated that there are a number of innovative products and services that have been developed recently, which enhance corrosion control and provide better pipeline coatings.
Corrosion control is an important factor when it comes to maintaining the integrity and safety of pipelines. Given the growing need for energy transportation it's crucial to shield pipelines from corrosion in order to ensure their longevity and prevent any leaks or failures.
Biogas is a renewable fuel generated through the anaerobic fermentation of organic matter. Biogas is a mixture of gases, mainly methane and carbon dioxide, accompanied by trace elements dependent on the feedstock and production method.
In a recent advisory bulletin (ADB-2022-01, Potential for Damage to Pipeline Facilities Caused by Earth Movement and Other Geological Hazards), PHMSA highlighted the importance of proactive integrity management, to reduce the potential for damage to pipeline facilities caused by earth movement or other geological hazards, collectively referred to as “geohazards.”
Bearing the responsibility of ensuring the continuous flow of energy resources through vast networks of pipelines, the custodians of pipeline integrity face an ever-present challenge: geohazards.
While the use of renewables, improved energy efficiency and electric vehicles are areas of focus, oil and natural gas will continue to be in demand for petrochemicals and fueling transportation by land, sea and air.
According to Pipeline & Gas Journal’s recent construction report a total figure of 19,832 miles of pipeline either planned or under construction in North America.
The advancement of the energy transition is leading to a growing imperative to reduce carbon emissions in challenging-to-transform sectors. Various industries are adopting alternative fuels and embracing increased electrification to promote sustainable practices within the construction and extraction sectors. In this regard, hydrated vegetable oil (HVO) represents a pioneering alternative fuel source.
Guest Perspective
Recently, the United States announced a pause on permits for new LNG export facilities. The move sparked outcry among industry groups in Asia, which quickly declared the move would hurt the region’s energy security and climate goals. However, their concerns are unfounded for five simple reasons.
Tech Notes
INEOS said its bio-based high-density polyethylene (HDPE) has been used to create a fully sustainable gas pipeline. Installed by French gas utility operator GRDF, the pipeline only uses the low-carbon footprint polymer.
Projects
FERC approves MVP’s Southgate gas pipeline extension; Regulator clears Trans Mountain, completion back on; Santos’ subsea pipeline clears construction hurdle; and more!
