Shale Gas Estimates Decline Sharply In EIA Report
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released a report showing drastically lower estimates of natural gas resources in the U.S. The agency estimated there are 482 Tcf of shale gas in the U.S., a decrease of more than 40%. The report also estimated the Marcellus region of New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia contained only 141 Tcf of gas. This is a decrease of 66% from earlier estimates of 410 Tcf.
DCP Midstream Expands West Texas Connections
DCP Midstream LLC announced Feb. 28 that DCP Sand Hills Pipeline LLC has purchased approximately 60 miles of existing 20-inch pipeline in Andrews and Ector counties in West Texas from Odessa Fuels LLC.

Shale Gas To Be Exported Worldwide In Cheniere-BG Deal
U.S. shale gas could be exported for the first time after an $8 billion deal was reached between the BG Group and Cheniere Energy. The gas is likely to be sent to countries in Asia and Europe, including the UK, after it is liquefied. A Pennsylvania regulation became law in August that will help prevent the discharge of incompletely treated frac water from natural gas drilling into area rivers. Altela Inc., a water treatment company based in Albuquerque, NM, has begun implementation of the solution to the frac water problem at a plant in Williamsport by treating 100,000 gallons a day of frac water to better than drinking water standards.
